5 Reasons to Wake Up Early and Start Blogging

by Andi Putra on September 9, 2009

I change my sleeping habit three weeks ago to have more time to write for this blog. I started to sleep at 11 pm and wake up at 6 am in the morning. At first, it’s very hard, I feel cranky every time I woke up. But after the first week, I started to feel better. And today, I could declare that I feel so much better now compared to the time when I have the 3 am –10 am sleeping time. The purpose of this post is to persuade you to also adopt this healthier sleeping habit. Here are the 5 reasons why you should sleep, wake up early and start blogging  starting tomorrow.

1. Prevent Diseases

Prevent disease

According to the research done by National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, sleeping early could prevent you from liver disease. This is because the detoxification process in our livers occur from 11.00pm till 01.00am. This process will be optimal when we are sleeping deeply. The process of detoxification also occur in our lymph glands from 9 pm till 11pm. If someone still works during 9.00pm till 11.00 continuously, it will bring negative impact to his/her health. Additionally, in the morning, from 7.00am till 09.00 am our intestines absorb nutrient from food. So, we should have breakfast around this time. In short, sleeping early makes us healthier.

2. More productive

Productive

Some of you probably have known that sleeping early allow us to have a longer deep sleep. So, for example, if we sleep at 3 am and the sun shines at 7 am, we’ll only have about 4 hours of deep sleep. That definitely is not enough, as the recommended adult sleeping length is 7 hours. But, if we sleep from 11 pm till 6 am, we’ll have more than enough deep sleep. Taking a nap in the afternoon is no substitute for good night sleep. Without enough sleeping in the night we lose our ability to concentrate and make complex decisions, cope with stress, or our ability to think creatively or responds quickly.

3. Have More Time Online to Browse for Ideas

More Time

Waking up early in the morning gives you more time to research on your topic, especially if you’re doing blogging part-time and have another full-time job. I usually start my morning by browsing ProBlogger, Shoemoney, John Chow and a couple other blogs to scan their new posts. I’ll also check the two largest internet marketing forums, the Warriors Forum and Digital Point Forum, to see what topic is on demand and to find inspiration on what to write. Then, I would choose a topic and perform an even more in-depth research. I always try to finish my blog post before 9 am because I need to shift my focus to my affiliate sites at 10 am. I would then schedule it to be posted later.

4. Write Fresher

Fresher

For those people who are doing blogging part-time, it’s always better to write the blog post before you start working (your full-time job) so that what happen at work later won’t affect your writing. Imagine, if something bad happen to you in the office, do you still have the motivation to write…? Probably not. Sleeping and waking up early also invigorates your brain and body, so you’ll be able to write your topic from a fresher perspective.

5.   Feel better

Better

As we grow older, we break our pattern of sleeping and waking up early we gained from our school years, because we’re linking pain into it. (Why can’t school start at 11?) So, to change that, we just need to link more pleasurable things with waking up in the morning (maybe by thinking of blogging + $$). You’ll be able to wake up early, and feel better in no time. You’ll also feel satisfied and proud of yourself for being able to wake up before everyone else (or so you think…) and that’s good.

Ok, now that I finished pitching to you about waking up early in the morning, it’s time for you to decide. So, are you convince yet? Tell me what you think by leaving comments below or tweet it if you like it.

1# I tend to work more effectively at night, as I have too much distraction within the day… althought I can’t deny I watched the drama “LOST” late in the night yesterday… -_-);;
I have no hard time believing that sleeping earlier and wake up earlier is a very healthy rythm, It’s really hard for me to implement it.

All great reasons for prying yourself out of bed and getting your blogging done early! Then again, I tend to go to bed around 1:00 AM and get up at 5:00 AM. That’s not how it’s supposed to work, is it? :-)

I find that I get my best blogging done early in the morning or late at night when everyone else is asleep. I was doing both for a while and found that an afternoon siesta solved any issues I had with not getting enough sleep. The problem is that too often there are distractions that take the siesta time away and then the whole kaboodle gets knocked out of whack. So probably picking one is best, of course, nighttime R.W. has no respect for morning R.W. and as a result, morning R.W. really hates nighttime R.W., i.e. I’ll sometimes stay up late even when I know I need to wake up early and the gin and tonics aren’t real great for that. Oh well, maybe I’ll figure out a way to make the siesta work sometime in the future…then I have to deal with a third me, but at least we will all be well rested.

Great article Andi. All the best,

R.W.

That’s some really good tips and I’m glad it worked out for you that well. I wish I could do it too, but I just know that I’m too much of a “night person” to be able to do it :) I’m always sleepy in the morning but as the day progresses I get fresher and the evenings I’m full of power, for some reason :)

Maybe when I get older I would have easier to change my sleeping habits. But at this time, I can concentrate better when I know most other peopler are sleeping, then I don’t get disturbed on messenger, email, phone etc.

Waking up early is good thing, and blogging early will give you very good ideas and good ideas will give you good article and good article means vast number of readers.

Mathematically,

Wake Up early + Early Blogging = Good Idea = Good Articles = Good Readers.

Therefore, If you want readers on the blog then wake up early.

Easy, LOL :)
