How effective is your viral video marketing campaign? Doing video marketing is more than just uploading your videos to a few video networking sites, like Youtube or Blip.tv. There are certain strategies and knowledge that you have to utilize in order to get the best out of it. Just like search engine optimization, video marketing is free. And just like SEO, video marketing does rely heavily on keywords. But the similarities stopped there, approaching video marketing solely from its SEO elements is limiting its ability to spread virally. These are the 7 clever tricks that you could try and implement in your videos.
1. Optimize your title
Make sure the title of your video is highly optimized for search engine. This means that you have to firstly do keyword research to find which keywords have an abundant of traffic but less competitors. As a general outline, keywords with less than 20,000 competitors in Google should be fine. After you find suitable keywords, put them as part of the title of your video. If possible, use the keywords twice in your title. Only do this when your keywords are 3 words or less.
2. Check your video descriptions
Your video descriptions should contain 2 main ingredients, the keyword phrase you are targeting and the URL that you want your viewers to go to after they watch the video. Your targeted keyword phrase here is the same one as your title. And if your video is based on an article, you could even include your whole article into the description box of the video. Remember to also put your URL at the very beginning of the videos, so they could see it without having to press ‘More Info’. You should also put your keyword phrase and other good, high traffic low competition keywords, in your video tags.
3. Build backlinks
Just like what you usually do with all of your SEO optimized articles, you want to have a lot of links pointing back to your videos. So, make sure you put the keywords you want to rank for as the anchor tags for your back links. This is basically to increase the rank of your videos in the search engine. To find the back links sources of popular Youtube videos in your niche, check the Statistics and Data section that is located below every Youtube videos.
4. Have a call to action
Always ask your viewers to take action at the beginning and at the end of your videos. This actions could be in the form of ‘clicking the yellow Subscribe button’ of your Youtube channel, or it could be to ‘click the link you have provided in the description box of your video’. This link could be a link back to your site, to an opt-in page, or even to an affiliate site. You could also provide a URL address at the end of your video, “For more great great making money online tips, go to (your website link).”
5. Leverage social medias
Facebook and Twitter is huge. You could leverage these two social media sites to promote your videos. Post your Youtube videos in your Facebook wall or post a link of that video in your tweet. Use social bookmarking sites like Digg and StumbleUpon to promote your videos as well. Hey, you could even post your video links in the forums that is related to your niche.
6. Use 2-part videos
2-part videos strategy is very powerful because it uses one of the most powerful copywriting/marketing tricks, the seeds of curiosity (for more about copywriting, read my 21 Killer Copywriting Tips). You have to make sure that the first part of your videos is interesting and informative, but cut it just when they feel they could get more. Leave them hanging and eager to watch the second one. When they opened your site to watch the second part of the video, ask them to join your site, or to tweet about your first video. This technique is very effective to get new subscribers or visitors to your site.
7. Leverage other more popular users
Use this strategy inside the video networking sites themselves. You could leverage other users by posting video responses to the the more popular videos in your niche or category. You could also copy the tags that those popular videos used and apply them to your own videos. This would increase the chance of your videos appearing beside or below their videos, whenever their videos are played. For long term, you could start by building friends’ list, joining a group, or commenting on other videos in Youtube.
Hope this helps you to use viral video marketing more effectively in your business. Fell free to leave comments or tweet this article if you likes it.
